Have Aston Villa made yet another costly mistake?

In May, when Aston Villa were still a Championship club, they made the decision to release a number of their academy players.

One of them was left-back Mitchell Clark. At the time, many supporters felt that releasing the 20-year-old was a mistake and one that might come back to haunt the club.

Well, that haunting journey may have just started…

On Monday, Leicester City announced on their official website that they have signed Clark on a three-year contract following his release from Villa.

It could be a case of deja vu if you are a Villa supporter because Clark’s move to the Foxes will bring back unwanted memories of Marc Albrighton’s free transfer to the King Power Stadium.

When Albrighton initially joined Leicester, they had just been promoted to the Premier League, and Villa were still in England’s top-flight and had not suffered their infamous relegation yet.

But not long after, Albrighton was playing a key role in Leicester winning the Premier League title, whilst Villa were suffering one of the worst seasons in their history and heading into the second tier of English football for the first time in nearly three decades.

That miracle of the Foxes becoming English champions has passed, but that doesn’t mean that a few years down the line, Clark might be haunting Villa for letting him go in the manner in which they did.
