Club Brugge midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is close to making an £11 million switch to Aston Villa, according to a report.
The Telegraph have claimed 25-year-old Nakamba will become Villa’s 11th signing of the summer following their promotion to the Premier League in May.
It is said that the capture of the Zimbabwe international will take Villa’s spending beyond £120 million, as Dean Smith’s side aim to prepare in the best possible manner for England’s top-flight.
Nakamba’s potential arrival will provide Smith with midfield depth, with Jack Grealish, John McGinn, Conor Hourihane, Henri Lansbury, Birkir Bjarnason, and new signing Douglas Luiz all being Villa’s midfield options.
Attack-minded duo Grealish and McGinn are certain starters, but from there, places are up for grabs, with Hourihane, Luiz and Nakamba the front runners to start when everyone is performing at their best.
Villa have been the biggest spenders and the busiest team during the summer transfer window, with Smith needing to fill his squad following the departures of over 10 players.
The likes of Glenn Whelan, Albert Adomah and Mile Jedinak were released by the club following Villa’s promotion to the Premier League, as the club opted against penning them down to a new contract.
If Villa do complete the signing of Nakamba then he will be the second player to arrive at the club this summer from Club Brugge – the other signing being Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes.
