Even though Aston Villa have just come up from the Championship, Adam Webster is perhaps a name that’s not known to the Villa Park faithful.
Dean Smith’s side are keen on securing the services of the 24-year-old centre-back, who plays for Bristol City. Most recently, Sky Sports reported that Villa had a bid of £12 million rejected by the Robins for their star player.

But who is Webster? And why are there a number of Premier League clubs, including Villa hoping to sign him up this summer?
Here are five facts about the player:
- As a young kid, Webster was rejected by the likes of Southampton and Chelsea before he was given a chance to shine by Portsmouth.
- He is a ball playing centre-half, who after those rejections, came through the ranks at the South Coast club, initially starting as a fullback – he would eventually move to Ipswich in 2016 where he would thrive in the central role.
- Ironically enough, considering it is Villa who are keen on securing his talents, when at Ipswich, Webster scored his first goal for the club against Birmingham City in 2016.
- In terms of international recognition, Sussex-born Webster has played for two England age groups – the U18’s and the u19’s.
- Whilst in the Championship, Webster has come up against Villa on four occasions (during his Ipswich days and for Bristol City) and he has failed to secure a win. Losing two matches, and recording two draws. The most recent was a defeat at Villa Park when Lee Johnson’s men were one of Dean Smith’s sides’ victims on their epic 10-match winning run.
