Stan Collymore reacts to leaked images of Aston Villa’s new badge

Aston Villa will celebrate its 150th birthday next season and one of the ways the club is going to celebrate is by introducing a new club badge.

Now, fans would have already seen a re-design of the new Aston Villa badge, the club even made us vote for it, picked the winner and then decided they were going to use it half-heartedly and how it’s not going to officially be the new badge.

Great crack, eh?!

But the next one, which will be announced in due course, will officially be the new one and an image has been leaked online about how it looks.

Stan Collymore reacted to it on Twitter by stating it’s ‘not for me’, with the Aston Villa name in full, but at the bottom of the badge rather than the top.

Of course, Villa’s iconic star, referring to the 1982 Champions League win, is still on there, as blue dominates the badge over claret.

It’s fair to say that the leaked images have resulted in a mixed response from fans, and if anything, more are negative towards it.

Chris Heck is in charge of all of this given his role as President of Business Operations, and he is coming under fire.

Look, you can’t please everybody, the club are doing the right thing by re-designing the badge, it’s just a case of making the right call to please all, which you aren’t going to do.

“Villans. Thorts?” asked Collymore.

“Seems to be accurate that this will be the new crest. I’ll just be kind and say “not for me”, but genuinely interested in the Villa family’s opinions. And the process that took us here.”

Leaked new badge gets a no

In all honesty, if the leaked images were to be true, and there is no smoke without fire, then I would be disappointed with the design.

It just looks meh, upside down and nothing new. If there is going to be a change, do it properly.

Yes, by all means, make sure to highlight and reflect the club’s past, but surely the powers that be can do much better than this.

All in all, Villa have to get this right because this is all going to be unleashed ahead of the club’s 150th birthday, and nobody wants to spoil a party!
