Owen Hargreaves has spoken highly about John McGinn and how he is a ‘crazy underrated’ player for Aston Villa.
The 29-year-old is playing at the top of his game and leading the charge for an Aston Villa side flying under Unai Emery.
Last season, John McGinn only registered four goal involvements from 34 Premier League matches – this season, he already has five from 13 games (transfermarkt).
And he is a player who former Bayern Munich star Owen Hargreaves hugely admires as he stated that he can ‘do the lot’ from the middle of the mark, as he told Premier League Productions (26/11/23 at 1:50 pm).
Owen Hargreaves’ comments came during the build-up of Villa’s 2-1 win over Tottenham – Youri Tielemans impressed from the bench.
Despite that tough first half, the team stuck their chest out and showcased their worth, with John McGinn playing his part.

“I think he is a crazy underrated player,” said Hargreaves. “Obviously, with the captaincy now and the leader.
“But he gives you so much. He gives you goals from midfield. Creative force. He can drive. He can tackle. I think this guy can do the lot. He can do everything this team needs. A good ball carrier as well.
“I really think he is one of the most underrated players in the league.”

It’s going well for the Villa captain, both for club and country – Scotland will be going to Germany for Euro 2024.
McGinn has played a key role in that and expect him to continue to go from strength to strength.
The main hope for us all is that McGinn is lifting that Europa Conference League at the end of the season because we were one of the favourites before a ball was kicked and we still are now the group stages are coming to its conclusion.
It’s just a case of taking command of the group now with leaders Legia Warsaw – level on points with ourselves – visiting Villa Park on Thursday.
