Aston Villa star Emiliano Buendia has posted an encouraging video on social media hinting at when he could near a return from injury.

Aston Villa have enjoyed a sensational season in the Premier League and Europe whilst Emiliano Buendia has endured a nightmare throughout the 2023/24 calendar.

The Argentine was hoping to finally reach his top form at Villa Park after arriving in the summer of 2021 in a £33m deal from Norwich City however, his season all but ended before it began.

Back in August, just days before the start of the Premier League season, it was announced that Buendia had suffered an ACL injury in training and has been out of action since.

The 27-year-old’s injury marked the first ACL blow that Unai Emery’s squad suffered this term, with Tyrone Mings falling victim just days after and then Boubacar Kamara’s season ended in February.

It’s been a torrid time for the former Championship star however, the bad days could soon be over as he has posted an encouraging update on social media.

What Emi Buendia has posted on social media this week

While it’s been documented that Buendia has returned to training in some capacity at Bodymoor Heath this year, the midfielder posted an exciting update on Instagram yesterday.

Pictured training alone, the Argentine was on grass videoed receiving the ball sharply and doing drills to which he captioned the video “Closer, we keep going.”

It’s an exciting prospect to hear that the 27-year-old is “closer” to making a return to the Villans, in what could be a perfect time ahead of what will be a decisive pre-season.

Buendia will be devastated to have missed the entirety of the 2023/24 campaign given what his teammates have achieved so far however, will be joyed to return to a squad that could be battling in the Champions League next term.

Having Emi Buendia back will be a huge boost for Aston Villa

It will be interesting to see how Buendia returns as he not only continues to find fitness but is still waiting to show his best form since arriving at Villa Park.

The Argentine was signed in 2021 on the back of his phenomenal season at Norwich City, where he recorded 32 goal contributions in 35 Championship appearances.

Since joining Villa, the versatile attacker has merely shown glimpses of such form, having netted just nine goals in 73 Premier League appearances.

While people will be patient with Buendia on his return, it would be an exciting prospect to imagine just what the former Championship jewel could offer Emery’s current squad when at full power.

For now, everyone associated with the club will be joyed to see Buendia building his fitness to edge closer to returning to the squad.
