Aston Villa have extended their winning run at home following their 1-0 win over Manchester City. This has seen fans praise Unai Emery and question his contract situation.
It has been a great season so far for Aston Villa with them now sitting in third place in the Premier League, just four points off top spot.
The transformation of the club under the management of Unai Emery has been nothing short of superb. This has seen the Villans go from 17th, under Steven Gerrard, to European football at Villa Park this campaign. Now their sights are set on the Champions League.
It is an exciting time to be a Villa fan right now with everything seemingly going right. A great squad which is being coached by an excellent manager and is doing well in the league and Europa Conference League.
After beating the treble winners Manchester City, Villa now sit in third place in the Premier League. They are now battling in a title race. This is a testament to Emery and the job that he has done in just over 12 months.
This is paired with an excellent run in the Conference League which has seen them fall just one defeat in five games. Villa are already qualified for the next stage of the competition with a game to go. Now they just need a point against Zrinjski Mostar to secure top spot.
With all that being said, it is clear to see that it has been an excellent campaign thus far. There has been one crowning glory and that is the record-breaking form shown at Villa Park in 2023.
Aston Villa home record
In the calendar year 2023, Aston Villa have fallen to just two Premier League defeats and one draw. Winning every league game other than that in B6. On top of these dropped points, Emery has only witnessed one more defeat in his whole time managing the Villans.
It has to be said that some games have been routine wins that you would arguably expect Villa to win. No disrespect intended but sides like Luton Town, Bournemouth and Fulham. You would expect all three points.
On the flip side of this, there have been some excellent wins witnessed by the home fans. 6-1 v Brighton, 4-1 vs West Ham and 3-0 vs Newcastle the standouts. Now the Man City win can be added to this list.

To show just how great this form has been, the Villans were defeated seven times in 2022. This is a 71% decrease between years which just goes to show how good Emery’s work has been.
Unai Emery contract
It has been reported by The Telegraph, upon Emery’s hiring by the Villans that he had signed ‘a lucrative deal at least four-and-a-half years in length’.
This would see him run out of contract come to an end in the summer of 2027 which seems like a long way away. With the form that Villa are showing it won’t be long until elite clubs sit up and take notice of the Villa boss.
Following the win against Man City, there is about as much media attention surrounding the club as there has ever been. Fans have been praising the performance but also have the Villa manager‘s future in the back of their minds.
Dan Bardell of The Athletic and Sky Sports News has spoken out on X. He said: “Give this manager a new contract now!!!” With 1,600+ likes, at the time of writing, it is safe to say that there are many fans who share his sentiment.
It must be said that the quicker the Villa hierarchy moves to get a new contract signed the better. With the pedigree that Emery has shown so far, it is a matter of time before a European giant comes in for him.
This season has been nothing short of superb and with Emery at the wheel, nothing feels impossible. Hopefully, Villa can secure their future prospects by securing the Spaniard to a long-term deal.
