Many teams across the Premier League would crave for a striker like Ollie Watkins because he has been utterly relentless for Aston Villa.
What’s amazing about his rise is that he wasn’t a big-name signing from a major European league or huge money being splashed on his services.
Instead, in 2020, then-Aston Villa manager Dean Smith knocked on the door of his former club Brentford and brought Ollie Watkins to the Midlands from the English championship.
Since then, the 28-year-old has, not only been outstanding in Claret and Blue colours, but also improved every season at the club, as he is now proving under Unai Emery.
What’s incredible about the player is his durability and reliability for Aston Villa, with quite an amazing stat emerging recently.
Ever since Ollie Watkins signed on the dotted line in 2020, he has only missed five Premier League games for the club, as posted by Total Villa’s Twitter account.
During that period, he has racked up 134 Premier League games, scoring 53 goals and supplying 25 assists, you can bet your bottom dollar he will raise his bat one day and score 100 league goals.
The reliable Ollie Watkins
Ollie Watkins for the rest of the season…
As Villa fans witnessed against Fulham on Saturday, Watkins is oh-so-important to the team securing Champions League football in May.
His two finishes were outstanding and a mark of a player who has been one of the best in the Premier League this season.
The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals and supplied 12 assists in the league. He is the only player to be in double figures in both departments.
Whilst that has been utterly amazing for the team, we all know that, if this injury-hit backline is in need of some help, that’s where Watkins steps up.
This might be a case of having to outscore teams before the likes of Ezri Konsa and Diego Carlos return because, without Boubacar Kamara in midfield, teams will come at us harder.
