It has been a great year for Aston Villa which ends with them sitting second in the Premier League. With that being said, let’s take a look at the three best moments of 2023.
It has been nothing short of a special year for Aston Villa. Starting 2023 in 12th place they have achieved European football and now occupy second place in the Premier League.
There have been very few negative moments with a defeat to Leicester City earlier in the year and the recent loss to Manchester United. Given that there have played 51 competitive games, to have that little bad to say, is impressive.
With that being said, there has been plenty of positivity to be had given the achievements of Unai Emery’s side. Let’s take a look at the best three moments of 2023 for Aston Villa.
Aston Villa best moments of 2023
Manchester City win

It is safe to say that Villa’s win in recent weeks against Manchester City is one of the most memorable for many years. Given the Villans’ form against City, there were withdrawn expectations of a potential win.
It must be said that Pep Guardiola’s side turned up at Villa Park and were outplayed by Emery’s men on the night. According to FotMob, Villa had 22 shots compared to just two for the opposition.
The atmosphere was great. It is a game that isn’t going to be forgotten by Villa fans any time soon.
Brighton win secures European football

Considering Villa hadn’t featured in European competition since 2010, it was a big deal that there was potential. Coming into the final day of the season, the Villans knew that a win would confirm a spot in the Europa Conference League.
Thanks to an early Douglas Luiz goal and Ollie Watkins’ 16th of the season, Villa were well on their way to Europe. Despite Denis Undav’s goal and nerves picking up inside Villa Park, the three points were secured.
This saw a parade-like atmosphere inside the stadium as the players and manager made their way around. One of the year’s best moments and a day to be remembered for all the right reasons.
Newcastle win

One day that hugely contributed to the Villans securing their Conference League place was a 3-0 thrashing of Newcastle United.
There haven’t been many games that were as highly anticipated for Villa fans in many years. This one had a very special atmosphere around it. Villa hosted eventual Champions League outfit, Newcastle and saw them off with ease.
Thanks to goals from Jacob Ramsey and a Watkins double, the confidence around the whole club was sky-high. This certainly had an impact on the remaining seven games as Europe was secured. Easily one of the best moments of 2023.
