Aston Villa supporters are hoping to have Tom Heaton fit and available after he withdrew from the England squad because of an injury.
Gareth Southgate’s side are preparing for two European 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, as Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson has been called up as Heaton’s replaced, as reported by BBC Sport.
Jordan Pickford is England’s main man between the sticks, with Heaton, and his former Burnley teammate, Nick Pope usually acting as the back-ups.
But Heaton’s time with the national side has been cut-short for now, as Villa will be hoping he can add to the solid start he has made to the new Premier League season.
In 10 days time, Dean Smith’s side will host Brighton on home soil, and Heaton will be hoping to be ready for that fixture as his side aim to build on their recent win at Norwich City.
Villa thumped Daniel Farke’s side 5-1, as Heaton would have been disappointed to have conceded towards the end of the game.
Nonetheless, Heaton will now have time to rest up and prepare for that game against Brighton, and if he were to miss out then Jed Steer would be on hand to replace him in goal.
Here is a selection of Villa fans reacting on Twitter to Heaton’s injury:
